Dear Member,
I don't know where the time has gone this summer. All events held so far have been well supported and, as yet, we have not had any problems with rain this year! (I probably shouldn't have said that with the Autumn Show still to come!)
Past Events
The Combined Training had been very successful with an encouraging number of entries in the Dressage. The jumping classes were also much better supported this year as it did not clash with any other events.
The Spider Ride to Brading Down which had been re-scheduled on several occasions eventually got off the ground on 2nd May and 17 riders took part.
The Working Hunter Rally with Anita Nicholls was over-subscribed and everybody taking part benefited from her instruction. The number of entries in the Working Hunter classes at the Spring Show increased considerably which may have had something to do with it!
The Spring Show entries were on the whole a little disappointing which was probably due to clashing with the New Forest Enthusiasts Show. Next year we will alter our date to avoid this clash as a lot of members like to go over to this show.
17 riders took part in the Annual Charity Ride from Golden Hill Fort and £232.00 had been raised for the Air Ambulance.
There were 26 entries for the Trec but, unfortunately, due to the very hot weather a few competitors felt unable to complete all 3 phases.
The Fun Show at Fairfields Farm was a very relaxed fun day (which is what it is meant to be) and was enjoyed by all those who took part.
The coach trip to Olympia is on Monday 20th December and if any of you would like to go please let me know by 20th September at the latest as ticket numbers have to be confirmed by the 30th. The cost is £60.50 for adults and £57.50 for children under 16 to include ferry fare, coach and Olympia seats.
Enclosed is a calendar of events for the rest of the season. We have been unable to hold any Competitive Rides this year due to a lack of help but, hopefully, we will be able to re-introduce them next year. Would any of you be able to suggest a venue and map out a route for one?
The Riding for the Disabled Group are looking for volunteer helpers at Lake Farm every Monday (except during school holidays) and the next term starts on Monday 20th September. There is a morning and an afternoon session and if you feel that you are able to give up some time to help in any way please either ring Sue Holmes on 07977278830 or just turn up on a Monday and see what goes on.
That's all the news for now but please keep your eye on the Livestock Column in the County Press for any updates.
